Naoya Arakawa

Naoya Arakawa creates glassware that embodies the fluidity of water, drawing inspiration from the natural landscape surrounding his workshop—particularly a nearby stream. Made using traditional Japanese free-blowing techniques, his vessels respond subtly to changing light and bring a quiet sense of movement to everyday use.

In 1981, Arakawa founded Seikousha Glass Studio in the mountains of Kyoto. He designs and builds his own melting furnaces, develops original glass recipes, and oversees every stage of production. Working with glass mixed by hand, he has devoted his practice to creating simple, free-blown vessels intended to be used and appreciated in daily life.
