A Shared Beginning

prunus was founded by coffee lovers, baristas, diners, and collectors of tableware and culinary tools. What brought us together was a shared belief: good coffee and good objects belong in the same space.

Coffee in Context

Our vision is inspired by fifth-wave coffee culture—an approach in which specialty coffee, thoughtful design, and hospitality come together.

Coffee is not separate from everyday life. It belongs alongside food, daily rituals, and the objects we choose to live with.

A Different Approach to Tableware

As collectors and café operators, we found Canada’s tableware selection often limited and repetitive. We wanted to look beyond the most readily available choices.

Through travelling and studying different coffee, tea, matcha, and dining cultures, we developed a better understanding of how tableware can support the way people prepare, serve, and enjoy them.

Our Approach to Objects

We select objects that balance function, appearance, craftsmanship, and value.

We respect the skill, design, and cultural knowledge behind well-made objects, but we do not believe every piece needs an elaborate story or an inflated price. We are drawn to honest, thoughtfully made tableware that feels good to use and fits naturally into everyday life.

Our collection brings together artisan works and well-designed everyday pieces. What matters is that each object serves its purpose and quietly enhances daily living and dining.

Objects and Coffee, Considered Together

Well-made objects and well-made coffee share similar values: thoughtful preparation, practical purpose, and attention to detail.

Our coffee is sourced from selected roasters and prepared on site with care. Together with our tableware, it forms our idea of a café showroom—a place where objects are not simply displayed, but experienced through everyday hospitality.

Building prunus

We began renovating our Richmond, British Columbia space in the summer of 2023 and completed it in the winter of 2025.

The process strengthened our belief that when something meaningful is missing, it is possible to create it.

What We Hope to Create

prunus is more than a retail store and more than a café.

It is our contribution to a more considered culture of objects, coffee, and hospitality in Greater Vancouver—a place where craftsmanship is respected, everyday usefulness is valued, and good objects are meant to be lived with.
