An underrated introduction to Naoya Arakawa’s work. It is less expensive than many of his other pieces because of its simple everyday form and relatively regular production—not because it represents lesser craftsmanship.

The generous size, comfortable shape, and star-like bubbles make it one of his most practical pieces. It may appear less collectible than his sculptural glasses, plates, and stemware, but it captures his glassmaking beautifully and is likely to be used far more often. My best friend Frank chose one for his girlfriend as a farewell gift just before she boarded her flight.

Hand-wash gently with a soft sponge and mild detergent. Dishwasher use is not recommended, as the glass is not heat-resistant and sudden temperature changes or contact with other tableware may cause cracking or chipping.

Do not use with boiling liquids, in a microwave, or in an oven. Avoid abrasive cleaners and sudden temperature changes.
