A particularly elegant example of Kasumi Fujimura’s ability to combine Japanese restraint with a subtle Western influence. The softly fluted plate almost resembles an open flower, while the pedestal gives even a simple arrangement of fruit or pastries a more deliberate presence.

Although traditionally called a compote plate, it also works beautifully for cakes, small desserts, seasonal displays, or simply as a sculptural object. Its matte white surface provides a quiet background that allows the colours of whatever is placed upon it to stand out.

Gentle hand-washing with mild detergent and a soft sponge is recommended. Support both the plate and pedestal while washing, and avoid lifting or holding the piece only by its rim.

Avoid dishwashers, abrasive cleaners, scouring sponges, prolonged soaking, impacts, and contact with other hard objects. Clean strongly coloured or oily food promptly to preserve the matte-white finish. Metal cutlery may leave grey surface marks; use a ceramic-safe cleaner and soft sponge if necessary.

The raised form is more vulnerable to impact than a conventional flat plate, so handle and store it carefully. Do not place heavy objects on top of it. The artist’s matte glaze is designed to remain hygienic and resist internal staining, but gentle care will best preserve its appearance.
